T. Boone Pickens Wants Water With His Steak.

Tue, 01 Jul 2008 09:42:09 PDT
In parts of Texas, like in many other growing cities in the United States, areas are dealing with a water scarcity issue due to increased usage, drought, climate change and population trends. Simply put, agencies have to go farther away to find that next gallon of water than they had to in the past. The result is a requirement for longer pipelines.

Arghandab: Did ANA troops "flee"?

Thu, 12 Jun 2008 12:55:02 PDT
On CBC Newsworld today the CBC's reporter, Paul Hunter, said "About half the Afghans turned and fled, so there's clearly some work to be done see box at right in link below]." But now he's rather changed the words he uses in print--see bolded bit below. Canadian and Afghan troops moved into the forests and orchards surrounding the city of Kandahar on Wednesday, battling with Taliban fighters who infiltrated the area, officials said. At least two Afghan soldiers were killed in the hour-long fir

Getting The Facts Straight on Drug Use, Policing Sentencing and Incarceration

Tue, 01 Jul 2008 18:47:53 PDT
The great thing about the Internet is that the facts behind policies are actually available to all of us, and are not simply the province of remote policymakers and wonks in ivory towers. Read it, link it, love it, because the facts are overwhelmingly on the side of drug policy reform. If folks hav

SURVIVING THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

Fri, 27 Jun 2008 08:13:07 PDT
The first sign I noticed was the guy with the shaky head. CBC Newsworld was covering the flooding of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and either unable to send their own reporter because of budget cuts or in need of American instruction on how you cover a major TV story these days, they opted for a live feed from NBC News. The NBC Reporter was parked on the banks of the once placid Cedar River with the flooded city in the background looking suitably dour as the CBC Anchor intro'd him. But as she asked her
